Why Would You Not Buy a Home in Portland Oregon?

For many people across the world, "Oregon" and "The Oregon Dream" represent a chance to live with nature in a beautiful place with mild climates and an abundance of life. Well we Oregonians tend to agree. There are some great reasons why NOW is the time to buy a home in Portland or other parts of Oregon. Lower prices and low interest rates make you're dollars go farther. The affordability index for Portland Real Estate is equal to that of 2004, and a tax credit if you buy before the end of April for many buyers of up to $8000. And of course there is so much to love and live for in Oregon. If you have been here you already know why the pioneers called it the "Land at Eden's Gate".

Current Market Conditions January 2010

Home buyers are again finding their dreams in Oregon housing market My view of the market in the Portland area is cautiously optimistic. There was a huge increase in buyer activity in the last quarter of 2009. This pushed sales for many areas up 40-60% from the previous year. This cleared out much of the inventory and now we are starting to see new inventory appear on the market. Many like to wait to list until after the holidays and that perennial trend is continuing. In January there were many new listings in the Portland MLS system. Personally we are getting more calls and finding more people who want to make a move this year, but we can always use new listings priced to sell, and we are always eager to help you realize your dreams in Oregon.

Buying Foreclosures & Short Sales

Buyer-beware and bring your patience. While there are many foreclosed properties still on the market and new ones appearing every day, the process to purchase them is still anything but "normal". Banks are calling the shots, reducing risk, and asking for contract terms that remove most of the traditional safeguards that buyers enjoy with normal Real Estate transactions. They use their contracts and forms and don't really negotiate terms. Be sure and read the Oregon Real Estate Agency pamphlet on buying distressed properties before making an offer. Email me and I'll drop one in the mail to you today. If you want to purchase a short sale or foreclosure are in a strong position to buy I would be happy to help you through the process. I've taken an advanced level training course and have the "Certified Distressed Property Expert" or CDPE designation.
